get involved: students
TechTeam welcomes UChicago students (undergrad and graduate) of all backgrounds who are interested in using technology to advance the public good. There are many ways to get involved throughout the year, so don't be afraid to jump in! Be sure to follow TechTeam's Facebook page for updates, read our latest blog posts on Medium, check out what we're doing on GitHub, connect with us on LinkedIn, or reach out via email.
In the fall, TechTeam offers both beginner and more advanced workshops on things ranging from basic web dev to programming with Python to data visualization. Our two workshop tracks took place on Mondays and Wednesday evenings at the Institute of Politics during the fall.
TechTeam runs projects all year around. In the fall, TechTeam generally has a project (or two) for returning or more experienced members. In the winter and spring, TechTeam organizes a number of different teams working with community organizations and local government to create technical solutions, ranging from websites to data analysis to social media assistance to mobile apps. Winter project teams have been assigned and are underway.
Started last spring, TechTeam ThinkTank aims to support TechTeam by documenting the workshops and projects, and also engaging with the greater civic tech community. If you're interested in the less technical side of TechTeam, this is a great opportunity to learn more about what TechTeam does and the role of civic tech in Chicago. ThinkTank relaunched in Winter 2018.
